Te Papa Marae

Fully Functioning Meeting Place

Marae at Te Papa Museum of New Zealand

Among the many attractions at Te Papa - Museum of New Zealand in the national capital, Wellington, is this fully functioning marae (meeting place) where visitors can share in Maori ceremonies.

Te Papa is housed in an imposing modern building on the Wellington waterfront.

As well as static displays, the museum utilises interactive technology which allows the visitor to do a virtual reality bungy jump or ride in a Maori canoe.

Other exhibitions highlight art and design, natural history and stories of the people of New Zealand.
