The bottlenose dolphins are to be found in temperate and tropical seas in many parts of the world and are the subject of dolphin watch cruises in Australia.

At Monkey Mia in Western Australia, friendly bottlenose dolphins come close to the beach and interact with people.

Adult bottlenose dolphins can each measure up to 4 metres in length and weigh up to 650 kilograms. They are said to live up to more than 30 years of age.

The bottlenose dolphins are active social mammals that live together in pods.

They can often be seen in the water tail slapping, riding on bow waves created by boats, surfing waves or leaping playfully into the air.

Dolphin watch cruises are usually available along the coasts of Australia.
