DISTANCES from Sydney: Narooma, 349 kilometres; Bermagui, 383 kilometres.

EUROBODALLA COAST: From around Pebbly Beach to Batemans Bay and farther south to Narooma.

SAPPHIRE COAST: From Bermagui through Eden to the Victorian border.

MONTAGUE ISLAND: 350 kilometres south of Sydney and 9 kilometres offshore from Narooma. Known to the Aborigines as Barunguba. Access to the island is restricted to guided tours.

ACCOMMODATION: There is plentiful accommodation -- hotels, motels, holiday units, caravan parks -- but it is best to book in advance during school holidays, long weekends and other holiday periods.

TRANSPORTATION: Most travel by car, either privately owned or hired. Express coaches are available between Parramatta in western Sydney and Narooma.

BOAT HIRE: You can hire not only a boat but fishing gear as well. You can also join chartered boat trips, especially for deep-sea fishing.

LIKELY FISHING CATCHES: Kingfish, snapper, bonito, morwong and trevally. Tuna, marlin and albacore are seasonal. Fish weights from 10 to 110 kilograms.
