Darling Harbour, just west of the Sydney city centre, is in itself a day's destination. Consider lunch in one of its Harbourside restaurants, and dinner perhaps in Chinatown which is a short distance from the harbour's southeastern end. Take the tram from Central station, the monorail from its city stations, the ferry from Circular Quay, or simply walk. The Powerhouse Museum and the National Maritime Museum are worth a visit, and the Star City casino is within walking distance.
Doing the Darling
- Darling Harbour
Right in the heart of Sydney lies the waterside visitors' mecca that is Darling Harbour. It's close enough to walk to from the central business district, or you take the tram, monorail, ferry or water taxi. - The monorail
The monorail circles Darling Harbour from stations in the heart of the city. - Sydney Aquarium
One of Sydney's most accessible popular attractions, the Sydney Aquarium lies on the eastern edge of Darling Harbour close to the heart of the city. - Sydney Wildlife World
Adjacent to Sydney Aquarium, a showcase of Australia's unique wildlife within their own habitats. - HM Bark Endeavour
At the Australian National Maritime Museum, the replica of Captain Cook's ship should be there to visit unless it's on one of its sea voyages. - Chinese Garden
Koi swim in the stream around the Chinese teahouse in this Darling Harbour attraction.
What they say
- The cool thing to do
"One more thing about getting to Darling Harbour that I didn't mention previously. You can take a taxi (of course), but the cool thing to do is to take a ferry from the Circular Quay area and get off right at Darling Harbour... I can't remember if you get off at Darling Harbour if you can get back on to get back to Circular Quay." - Great area for walking around
"Oh yeah, the Aquarium! I'd forgotten about that. It's only a few blocks from where we stayed when in Sydney. It's in Darling Harbour, very close to Cockle Bay ... great area for just walking around."
