Canberra, capital of Australia, is in the Australian Capital Territory, roughly between the cities of Sydney and Melbourne. The territory itself is quite small — relative to, say, the Northern Territory — and Canberra and the Australian Capital Territory are often used interchangeably to describe the national capital.
