A colorful feature of the Canberra Festival is the flight of hot air balloons which traditionally take to the air from the grounds of Old Parliament House.
Canberra Day, a public holiday in the Australian Capital Territory, takes place on the second Monday in March.
The Canberra Festival is marked not only by the flight of large numbers of hot air balloons but also the staging of concerts and dance performances as well as special exhibitions in Canberra galleries and museums.
