Old Parliament House opened in May 1927 to house the Australian Parliament after the country's capital was moved from Melbourne to the Australian Capital Territory.
It was built to temporarily house the Parliament until the construction of a more permanent structure.
The new Parliament House was completed in 1988 and the Australian Parliament transferred to its new and permanent home.
In the interim, Old Parliament House housed the National Portrait Gallery for some time until 2009 when a new National Portrait Gallery building was constructed and opened on King Edward Terrace close to the National Gallery of Australia.
Since May 2009, Old Parliament House has been home to the Museum of Australian Democracy.
The museum is open daily from 9am to 5pm.
