By , About.com Guide

One of Australia's most imaginative, most innovative film directors, Baz Luhrmann has four outstanding films to his credit. His fourth and latest film, Australia, opened in November 2008 after its world premiere in Sydney. His films on DVD follow:

1. Moulin Rouge

Australian director Baz Luhrmann reinvented the musical in this imaginatively innovative film. You'll either love or hate this film but let its music, color and movement dazzle you before making your judgment. With Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor.

2. Australia

This is a grand film set in the Australian Outback and in the city of Darwin in the Northern Territory in the days before and after the bombing of the city by the Japanese. The film stars Nicole Kidman as an aristocratic English woman who travels to Australia to take over an Outback cattle station on the death of her husband and who then has to drive 1500 cattle to Darwin with the help of a drover played by Hugh Jackman. This should have been a top movie but is marred by going off on several tangents and by sometimes cliched dialog. But the Outback setting is superb and makes the movie truly worth seeing.
