  • The 2009 Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras took place from February 14 to March 7, culminating in a glittering Mardi Gras parade which started at Hyde Park and ended at Moore Park. The Mardi Gras party followed after the parade and continued all through the night.

Traditionally, Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras events include a film festival, music concerts, picnics, art exhibitions, sports and varied other activities. There are, of course, variations from year to year.

A colorful kaleidoscope of events, the festival draws crowds from all over the world.

Fair Day

The popular Mardi Gras Fair Day is usually held at Victoria Park, Camperdown. This was again the venue in 2009 with the fair taking place on February 15.

Film Festival

The Queer Screen Mardi Gras Film Festival screens local and international feature and short films in Sydney, Paddington, Newtown and Parramatta.

The 2009 film festival ran from February 13 to March 5.

Parade and Ball

The annual Mardi Gras Parade on March 7 was the colorful public climax of the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras.

But it was the Mardi Gras party, which followed the parade and continued into the morning, that was for Mardi Gras participants the festival's culmination.
