  • Line honors: Nicorette, Ludde Ingvall, Sweden — 2:14:02:09

In 2000, the 80ft Swedish maxi yacht Nicorette won the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race line honors early in the morning of December 29.

Nicorette's elapsed time was 2:14:02:09, some 20 hours shy of Nokia's race record time of 1:19:48:02 set in the 1999 race.

Winds were blowing from the southwest at 30 to 40 knots, reaching 50 knots with very rough seas and a heavy swell in Storm Bay when Nicorette finished.

Melbourne maxi Wild Thing crossed the finish line at 8.23.41am to claim second place on elapsed time -- some five hours after Nicorette.

Crossing the line in third position was the first of the Volvo 60s, Illbruck, at 9.03.47am.
