The balmain bug, also known as butterfly fan lobster, is a species of slipper lobster found in shallow waters in Australia.
It is described as a flattened, reddish brown crustacean, up to 23 centimetres (9 inches) long and 14 centimetres (6 inches) wide, with flattened antennae and no claws.
It derives its name from the Sydney suburb of Balmain.
