Just south of the Melbourne city centre, and a short walk across the river from Flinders St Station and Federation Square, lies the arts and entertainment precinct that is Southbank.

It is an ideal place for a number of leisurely hours browsing through NGV International and other Arts Centre venues, strolling riverside through the Southbank promenades, shopping, dining in a variety of restaurants and enjoying the attractions of the Crown Entertainment Complex.

Casino and hotels

The Crown complex comprises a casino, restaurants, bars, shops, cinemas, other entertainment venues, and the Crown Towers Hotel.

If you wanted to stay in the area, there are at least two other large hotels — Langham Hotel and Travelodge Southbank — close to the riverside promenade areas.

Getting to Southbank

If you are in the southern part of the Melbourne city centre, all you need to do is cross the river towards either the Crown Entertainment Complex in the west or the Arts Centre, easily recognised by the familiar Arts Centre spire, in the east.

If you are sightseeing on the free City Circle tram alight at either the Flinders St Station or Federation Square stop, and walk south across Princess Bridge.

If you are on the free Melbourne City Tourist Shuttle, alight at either the Southbank or Arts Precinct stop.

Or you can always take a taxi.

Driving is not recommended as finding parking space can be a problem.
