The Shearwater sculpture by Inge King along the Southbank Promenade was commissioned by Esso Australia. King is recognised as the expert of non-figurative sculpture in Australia, many of whose works are displayed around Melbourne. These include the sculpture comprising four huge waves of steel, Forward Surge, at the Arts Centre on St Kilda Rd.
