Etihad Stadium is a sports and entertainment venue in the Docklands area close to Melbourne city centre.
The Docklands stadium was officially renamed Etihad Stadium since Etihad Airways won naming rights in a five-year agreement which began on March 1, 2009.
The docklands stadium has also been previously known as Victoria Stadium, Colonial Stadium and Telstra Dome.
Sports venue
Etihad Stadium is home ground for a number of Melbourne Australian Rules football teams and Aussie Rules matches are regularly played in the Docklands stadium during the football season.
Other sports including cricket, soccer, rugby league and rugby union have been played at Etihad Stadium.
Etihad Stadium is said to be the only football stadium in the southern hemisphere with a fully retractable roof.
Concert venue
The stadium is also a concert venue and performance space for international and interstate singers and bands requiring seating space for 12,000 to 74,000 depending on seating configuration.
Stadium location
Etihad Stadium is located at 740 Bourke St, Docklands, close to Southern Cross train station, and is acessible by tram. Parking is available for those who drive.
Etihad Stadium and the entertainment, shopping and restaurant area of Docklands is on the route of the City Circle Tram and the City Tourist Shuttle.
