Moving Experience:
The hotel's unusual name arose from its being moved, on wheels, 120 metres to its present location. The old location was being reclaimed to make way for New Zealand's national museum, Te Papa.

Railway tracks were laid along the route, and the five-storey, 3500-tonne structure — it took four months to separate the building from its foundation — finally made its way 120 metres down Cable St, then across the street, to its new site on the opposite side of Cable St. The move itself took only two days, and five months after the project started, the hotel reopened in November 1993.
