Accommodation in Auckland ranges from five-star hotels and motels to budget hostels and other accommodation venues.
Most travelers would already have booked accommodation at a suitable hotel or motel, after considering services, accessibility and price.
Budget accommodation
Budget accommodation is available at backpacker hostels (so named from the backpacks of those traveling on the cheap) or from a youth hostel (part of the worldwide Youth Hostel Association) which caters for travelers of all ages but who must be members of the YHA. The good news for those interested in the YHA is that it's easy to join.
Many of these types of budget accommodation are reasonably good and at least two Auckland youth hostels are close to the city centre. Check the New Zealand YHA website.
Hotels and motels
Generally you’ll find Auckland hotels right in the city centre, which is convenient if you’re only staying a night or two and wish to do some exploration of the city on foot or by public transport.
Find the Auckland hotel that suits you.
Motels would more generally be found at the city outskirts and would have better parking facilities for your car if you have rented one.
Motels are also a good base if you plan to travel around by car.
Bed and breakfast
An alternative to impersonal hotel and motel accommodation are bed and breakfasts which are usually part of a private home and has the amenities of home.
Motor parks
These are often known as holiday parks. If you're traveling by motorhome, you would find parking space with available power points (electrical outlets). Laundry rooms and toilets are usually available onsite.
Holiday parks would be away from the city.
