As an example of short trips out of Sydney, one could take the western option by simply heading to the M4 tollway which can be accessed from downtown Sydney through George St, Broadway and then Parramatta Road.
The M4 continues towards Penrith in Sydney's outer west.
Just after Penrith, the M4 continues into the Great Western Highway which starts its ascent into the Blue Mountains at this point.
There is a visitor centre at Glenbrook in the lower Blue Mountains where you find maps and other travel information.
There should also be signs indicating routes to the Blue Mountains National Park. Take a detour if you wish and sample the bush.
Stop at Faulconbridge
Back on the Great Western, continue driving west. At Faulconbridge there is the Norman Lindsay Gallery and Museum which is open seven days a week from 10am to 4pm. It is closed on Good Friday and Christmas Day.
View some of the paintings and sculptures that made Lindsay famous.
The movie Sirens with Aussie model Elle Macpherson and English actor Hugh Grant was mostly filmed on the grounds of the Norman Lindsay Gallery and Museum but the only factual episode in the film is said to be the controversy on Lindsay's Study of the crucified Venus.
The pool scene in the movie was not filmed on the gallery grounds.
