Bowali Visitor Centre, within Kakadu National Park, lies just south of the junction of the Kakadu and Arnhem Highways in Australia's Northern Territory.
If you're driving from Darwin, you'd take Stuart Highway to the junction of Arnhem Highway some 35 kilometres south, then follow Arnhem Highway east to just before the township of Jabiru. Turn south at Kakadu Highway.
Kakadu country and ecology
Bowali is a Gundjeihmi name for the local area and creek. The land is owned by the Aboriginal people of the Mirarr clan.
Accessed through a meandering path, Bowali Visitor Centre contains interpretive displays of Kakadu country and ecology, providing insights into the land and its traditional people.
The building opens to verandahs and bush surrounds.
Indigenous art and craft
Marrawuddi Gallery, located within the visitor centre, promotes Aboriginal fine art not only by artists within Kakadu but also by those of western Arnhem Land and several art centres at the Top End.
Marrawudi is a Gundjeihmi word for the sea eagle, totem for many clans of Kakadu and west Arnhem Land.
