There's always the chance of getting lost in a city as large as Sydney.
Take precautions. Here are some things you could do:
- Always have a Sydney map with you.
- Know the name and exact address of where you are staying.
- List down the phone number of where you are staying.
- If you take a bus, know the bus route number.
Most, if not all, of the foregoing information is essential when seeking help to find directions to where you're staying.
Look for a landmark
To find your way in Sydney, pick a landmark you can see from almost anywhere, such as the Sydney Tower (also known as Centrepoint Tower) in the heart of the city.
Whether you have or don't have your map with you, know where to go from the Sydney Tower area.
The Sydney Tower has had various official names including Centrepoint Tower and the AMP Tower Centrepoint and old-time residents will know what you mean when you call it Centrepoint Tower.
Sydney Tower is in that city block bounded by the Pitt St Mall, Market St, Castlereagh St and King St close to Hyde Park. The shopping complex on that block has been known as Centrepoint and is the city location of the Westfield shopping centre.
Find your way from Centrepoint
To get to the Sydney Town Hall train station, walk west on Market St, then one block south on George St to the intersection of Park and George, where you'll see Sydney Town Hall. Find one of the entrances to the train station in the "Sydney subway" system and walk down.
To get to the St James train station, walk east on Market St and cross Elizabeth St to the underground walkway to the train station.
If you're after a bus and are on George St (which fronts Sydney Town Hall), buses run north and south on this street.
If you're still lost, around Sydney Tower or elsewhere, do ask for directions.
