Getting to Yarra Valley
Take the Eastern Freeway

By Larry Rivera, About.com

If you plan driving to the Yarra Valley wine region, getting there from Melbourne should be pretty straightforward.

While driving in the city may sometimes frazzle the nerves with one-way streets, tram lines and hook turns, the trick is to head north towards Victoria Pde.

Head east on Victoria Pde, then turn left and head north on Hoddle St.

You will then need to turn right (east) into the Eastern Freeway. Note that to turn east into the freeway, you actually need to be in the left lane, turn left after the intersection and take the arc that then brings you to the freeway heading east. Follow the freeway all the way until you hit the T-junction at Springdale Rd, where you can only turn left or right.

(There are plans to continue the Eastern Freeway beyond the current T-junction but this may not happen soon.)

Turn right into Springdale Rd, look for Maroondah Highway, and turn left into it.

Maroondah Highway takes you to the junction of Melba Highway where the Yarra Valley wine region begins.
