Fraser Island, just north of Queensland's Sunshine Coast, is the world's largest island and an Australian World Heritage site.

On the eastern side of the island, along the great stretch of sand that is Seventy Mile Beach, you'll find the Colored Sands about 18 kilometres from Indian Head.

The Colored Sands, sculptured by the elements and comprising multicolored cliffs of red, yellow, brown and orange sands, are also known as the Pinnacles which form the area called the Cathedrals.

Fraser Island is across the water from the Hervey Bay base of whale-watching cruises. The island is accessible by ferry — or you can come in by light plane and land on the beach.
