Area: Kangaroo Island has an area of 4500 square kilometres, It is 155 kilometres long east to west, and 55 kilometres wide.

Climate: Relatively mild conditions summer and winter. Average maximum temperature - January: 23.5°C; June: 15.2°C. Average minimum temperature - January: 14.6°C; June: 9.2°C. Average daily bright sunshine - January: 9.9 hours; June: 4.5 hours. Rain days of more than 1.0mm - January: 2; June: 12.

Airlines: Air service operates from Adelaide Airport. On the island, there is an airport shuttle service between Kingscote and Kingscote airport. Bookings recommended.

Ferry: Kangaroo Island Sealink between Cape Jervis and Penneshaw. Passenger and vehicle ferries.

Hire Cars: May be arranged in Adelaide or on Kangaroo Island.

Coach service: Available between Kingscote, American River and Penneshaw (connecting with ferry services).

Roads: Major roads between Penneshaw, American River, Kingscote and Prndana are sealed, most others are unsealed.

Camping: Permitted in approved local government camping areas and designated areas within national parks. Caravan and camping grounds are also available in several areas.

Other outdoor activities: Swimming, fishing, sailing, scuba diving, surfing, biking, horseback riding.

Pets: Not allowed in national or conservation parks. Best not to take them with you on your Kangaroo Island visit.

Firearms: Prohibited in all parks.

Banks: There are branches or agencies in Kingscote, Penneshaw, American River and Prndana.
