MARITIME PARK. The Marlborough Sounds Maritime Park comprises many of the sounds and is in fact a group of reserves interspersed with private land holdings.

PRIVATELY OWNED LAND. The Queen Charlotte Walkway passes through a number of privately owned land, which you are allowed to traverse by permission of its owners, so treat the properties with respect.

SEA KAYAKING. There are a number of sea kayaking tour companies in Picton for arranging Marlborough Sounds kayaking adventures.

HUNTING AND FISHING. Permits are required.

ACCOMMODATION. While there are places where you can stay on the sounds themselves, note that most of these are accessible only by boat or floatplane.

CAMPING GROUNDS. There are camping grounds available on the Marlborough Sounds, some of which are fully serviced. Check with the visitor centre.

FERRY SERVICE. The Interislander ferry service provides a shuttle service between Picton and Wellington. The Lynx runs a similar service.

TRAIN. The Coastal Pacific train runs from Christchurch to Picton through Kaikoura and Blenheim.
