Located on West Circular Quay at the southern end of Sydney's Rocks District, the Museum of Contemporary Art is a familiar sight in the Rocks-Circular Quay area and is visible from the Sydney Opera House across the water.

The museum's art deco building is a short walk from the ferry wharves and train and bus terminals. Permanent and visiting exhibitions of various types of contemporary art are a feature of the museum.

The Museum of Contemporary Art is Australia's only museum dedicated to exhibiting, interpreting and collecting contemporary art from across Australia and around the world. Part of its attraction is a continually changing program of exhibitions which lend a freshness to its displays.

The museum says contemporary art can be defined in several ways: art which is of this time; art which is recent, new or existing now; or art which follows modern ideas or fashions in style and design. It can also refer to museum collections from 1970s onwards.

Entry to the Museum of Contemporary Art is free. Special exhibitions may attract an admission fee.
