This is the mother church of Australian Catholicism built on the site of the first Sydney cathedral built earlier in the 19th century but which had gone up in flames in 1865. The foundation stone for the present cathedral was laid in 1868.
Tours of the cathedral and crypt are available at noon on Sundays from the College St entrance.
